Known as Winceyette, this fabric is exceptionally soft and brushed with a warm handle, making it ideal for nightwear and other garments. Originating in Wales during the 17th Century, flannel fabric was first developed by weavers who discovered that adding 'nap' created a remarkably soft material that retained warmth despite its light weight. Its brushed surface, known as napped flannelette, has a unique raised texture. The cotton is dry-finished by raising fibres on the surface, resulting in a "fuzzy" feel and appearance. This "fuzziness" helps the fabric retain warmth and creates a softness that has made it popular for nightwear. Additionally, its ability to absorb and release perspiration has contributed to its reputation as a comfortable material for sleepwear.
